Laser scanning (LiDAR) is a new technology aimed at the collection of elevation data and the creation of digital elevation models of terrain and other surfaces (DTM and DSM) for large areas.
Digital Terrain Models (DTMs) can be generated with high resolution and detail, increasing the technology’s cost efficiency compared to more traditional photogrammetry.
Helica uses LiDAR systems mounted on helicopters and fixed wing aircraft.

Helica’s remote sensing data sources are:
- laser-scan altimetry;
- digital photography;
- digital videos;
- thermal images and intensity;
- gamma-ray amplitude spectra;
- earth’s magnetic field and its gradient.
